Ethiopian police arrest two men for "multiplying money

The Ethiopian police on Monday arrested a Cameroonian and a Sudanese in connection with “money multiplication” claims by some people to the tune of $30,000 from two Ethiopian nationals, police said here.

“The two foreigners were caught red-handed on Sunday for taking the sum of $30,000 from two individuals through cheating,” said the Addis Ababa police commission.
They were arrested around Kolfe Keranio sub-city in Addis Ababa late on Sunday for obtaining the stated amount from the individuals claiming that they would “multiply” it for them.

The Sudanese and Cameroonian were said to have agreed with two local men to multiple the amount to $ 900,000.

However, during the process of multiplying the money, the “magic” system they were using failed, which later resulted in a quarrel between them and their clients.
People around the area who heard the quarrelling reported the matter to the police, who arrested them.

Police said a carton in which the suspects kept their currency duplicating machine, various types of chemicals and other items was also confiscated during the arrest.

The detainees were alleged to have confessed to that police that they committed the stated crime. According to the Addis Ababa police commission, the Sudanese man admitted that he was involved in similar activities while he was in Dubai a few months ago.
The police say they are continuing with their investigations against the foreigners and their local clients.
